    Welcome to Year 6!
We are delighted to welcome pupils and families to what promises to be an exciting and rewarding year.

This term, Year 6 will be exploring the theme of 'Healing' through the topic of Reconciliation, focusing on the power of forgiveness, repairing relationships, and God's unconditional love. They will then study the 'Local Church' theme through Sources, discovering how the Bible and our faith community guide us today.

In English, we are reading David Almond’s haunting masterpiece, Skellig. Using its unique blend of gritty reality and magical realism, pupils will be authoring their own 'parallel discovery' narrative. Alongside this, our class read is Alfred Noyes' classic narrative poem, The Highwayman, which we will use to explore atmospheric vocabulary, rhythm, and tension.

In Mathematics, our Year 6 pupils are deepening their geometric understanding, securing their knowledge of shapes, and mastering core mathematical concepts. As they prepare to transition to High School, we focus on building mathematical fluency, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, ensuring every child steps into their next academic chapter as a confident, capable mathematician.

In Science, our Year 6 pupils will be taking a fascinating journey inside the human body to explore our complex double circulatory system. Children are learning how the heart acts as an involuntary muscular pump, tracking how blood vessels loop to the lungs and around the body, and discovering the unique roles that nutrients, water, and oxygen play within our blood.

In History, our Year 6 historians will be studying the rise and legacy of the 19th-century Sikh Empire. Through this fascinating study of a non-European society, pupils are analysing primary sources to discover how Maharaja Ranjit Singh united the region, exploring themes of religious tolerance, military innovation, and the empire's ultimate relationship with British history.

In computing, Year 6 will be mastering advanced coding with variables and functions. The unit ends with a 'Skills Showcase', where pupils debut and debug their own digital creations.

Turning into mini-engineers, Year 6 are using Kapow blueprints to design and build model playgrounds. They are mastering wood and joining techniques to create stable, freestanding structures.

Year 6 are out on the field sharpening their cricket skills. Pupils will be focusing on strategic batting, precise bowling, and sharp fielding tactics while building teamwork and great sportsmanship.

As high school approaches, PSHE focuses on transition and economic wellbeing. Pupils are exploring budgeting and career aspirations while building the confidence, resilience, and practical skills needed for a smooth move to secondary school.

We look forward to a successful and enjoyable term in Year 6.
