Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

Teacher Name: Mrs Urquhart

Teaching Assistant(s): Miss Benson

Autumn has been an incredibly busy and diverse journey of discovery for Year 3. In Religious Education, they have been exploring the themes of prophecy and promise, delving into the New Testament and analysing the Nativity story from the different Gospel writers’ perspectives. Their creativity has shone brightly in Music, where they have been learning to tell stories through the art of singing ballads inspired by David Bowie,  while in PE, they have been developing their strength and flexibility through gymnastics routines. Finally, the children have stepped back in time during their history lessons to explore the evolution of Britain, tracing British heritage through the Stone, Bronze, and Iron Ages.

Class Routines:

Our PE days are Thursday and Friday. Please bring a water bottle to school which is stored in our class tray. Please label any items your child brings to school to reduce the chances of items being lost.

Homework / Spellings:

Homework and spellings will be given on a Monday to be returned on Friday. We would love it if you and your child would read every night where possible. Spellings are given on a QR code to a spelling game. If you do not have access to a device to play you can still help your child memorise their spelling words.  If you would like to support your child with their multiplication facts they can use TT Rock stars at home.

Key Dates:

MCA & CSC Mersey League - 14th January 2026

National Year of Reading:

2026 is the National Year of Reading and in Year 3 we are going ALL IN. We want to use pupils’ passions like football, music, gaming, nature, fashion, anything – as the spark that brings reading to life. We have already hosted a book fair and we're looking forward to hearing incredible stories, fantastic poems and learning new facts about our world.
