Our school community is proud to be working towards the CAFOD LiveSimply Award — an opportunity for Catholic communities to respond to Pope Francis’ call in Laudato Si’ to “work with generosity and tenderness in protecting this world which God has entrusted to us.”
Through the Laudato Si’ Action Platform, Pope Francis invites us on a seven-year journey of reflection and action — caring for God’s creation and showing love for our neighbours both near and far. The LiveSimply Award celebrates communities who live:
Simply,
In solidarity with people in poverty, and
Sustainably with creation.
We are embracing this challenge with faith, hope, and action.
We are learning to live simply through prayer, reflection, and action.
Our collective worship and CAFOD Saints’ Days help us learn from the lives of saints and follow in their footsteps.
We regularly include LiveSimply ideas in our school newsletters and on our social media pages to encourage families to take part.
Each month, we set small, meaningful eco-targets — for example:
September: planting trees
October: donating to food banks
Through our Fair Share project, we distribute food and essentials to our local community.
We have donated slow cookers and recipe books to help families cook healthy, affordable meals.
Our Eco Club grows vegetables for the wider community, encouraging everyone to enjoy the fruits of the earth and share what we have.
We are committed to caring for God’s creation and making sustainable choices every day.
Every class now has a recycling bin, and both children and staff are encouraged to reduce waste.
We are planting flowers and herbs linked to saints – such as St Joseph’s white flowers – and creating a sensory garden with aromatic plants for our SEN children to explore.
We encourage families to walk or cycle to school, or to park and stride, helping us all to stay healthy and reduce pollution.
Our Art Club will take part in CAFOD’s Eyes of the World campaign, creating artwork that reminds us we are all watching over our planet and its people.
We aim to have a meat-free day once a week, encouraging thoughtful choices that care for creation.
As a Catholic community, we are called to stand with those in need.
We have chosen CAFOD as our main charity, raising funds and awareness to help build a fairer world.
Through CAFOD assemblies, collective worship, and classroom learning, we explore global issues and the importance of compassion and justice.
We regularly donate to food banks and recycle unused clothing, ensuring nothing goes to waste.
Each week, we say a special prayer for those in need, reminding ourselves that every act of kindness matters.
At the start of each term, children can donate outgrown school shoes to support children in Tafara, helping them to walk to school. Our Eco Club creates posters about this initiative using recycled paper.
Thanks to support from local partners, we offer a free breakfast club, ensuring every child starts the day nourished and ready to learn.
The LiveSimply Award reminds us that living simply, sustainably, and in solidarity with others helps us to live more fully — as Jesus calls us to. Together, we are learning to care for God’s world, to share with others, and to make choices that build a better future for all.
