    Welcome to Year 4!

    Teacher Name: Mrs Sheriff

    Teaching Assistant(s): Mrs Patera

Hello and welcome to Year 4!
We are looking forward to a year filled with curiosity, creativity and new challenges.

This term we will be looking at:

In English, we are looking at the text of “Leon and the Place Between”, focusing on writing a Portal Narrative and a Persuasive Report. We will be honing our authorial skills to create some brilliant pieces of work to showcase all our skills. We cannot wait for you to read them!

We are reading The Nowhere Emporium by Ross Mackenzie. It takes us on a magical journey centred around a mysterious shop from nowhere which can appear at any time and in any city. Through our Reading Fluency and Reading Mastery sessions we will be developing our oracy and prosody alongside our understanding of key texts.

In RE, we are beginning our journey with Creation and Covenant, where we follow Abraham on his journey following God’s call and living out his covenant. We will delve deeper into the virtues (faith, hope, love, charity) and make links to how people can live these out. We will consider our own lives and how these key scriptures and virtues can be helpful in our own lives to be good neighbours to one another.

In Spanish, we are journeying through Latin America and locating Spanish-speaking countries. We will learn the seven days of the week and follow Oscar the Bear on his adventures.

In Science, we are looking at the topic question: What happens to the food that we eat? We will explore the digestive system, the types of teeth present in carnivores, herbivores and omnivores and look at how food chains are impacted by the environment.

In Computing, we are working on Computing Systems and Networks: Collaborative Learning, sharing documents, developing slide presentations and exploring Google Forms.

In Humanities, we are beginning a journey to answer the question of: What did the Anglo-Saxons and the Scots leave behind? Delving into daily life of Anglo-Saxons and Scots, the Scots influence on Northern Britain and exploring artefacts.

During our weekly PE on Tuesdays and Fridays, we will be exploring Fitness and Dance.  We will be fine-tuning our skills as dancers through a variety of musical genres and dance styles.
