Reading is at the heart of our curriculum and we aim to have all of our children reading with confidence despite their starting points. 

At our school, we use Read Write Inc. (RWI) to teach children to read. Read Write Inc. is a structured, systematic phonics programme that helps children learn to read accurately and fluently while developing a love of reading. It is a whole school approach to teaching early reading and writing, designed to ensure progress for every child. 

Children are taught to recognise sounds, blend them to read words, and build their understanding of what they read. Lessons are lively, engaging and matched carefully to each child’s stage of reading development. Regular assessment ensures that all children receive the support and challenge they need to become confident, independent readers.
