The ROAR! Response to Mental Health

We all have mental health, and there are things that happen to us every day that have either a positive or negative effect on how we are feeling. The ROAR rainbow scale can be used to gauge where children are at key points in the day. This gives us an indicator of how ready our children are to engage in learning and to recognise their...

ROAR RAINBOW

Ask your child/children to rate themselves and how they feel along the rainbow. It is okay to not feel okay. We all have good day and bad days. This will give you a good idea of how ready and able they are to engage with whatever you are doing at that point in the day.

This could be used over a week to identify key times of the day when your child’s mental health is low. How could you change your routine and structure of the day to change this?

Could you put in an exercise or relaxation session?

Is it time to connect with friends and family?

Is it time to go outside and enjoy some fresh air and connect with nature?

Maybe take some time listen to music or enjoy a story together.

Meet Resilient Ralph

We use Resilient Ralph in school as a talking point for resilience

  • Green hat – keep calm and relax hat.
  • T-shirt to remind people to be resilient.
  • Rubberband – Do you bent or break? We all have a breaking point.
  • Springs to bounce back.

Could you design a resilient character?

Significant research carried out Dr Angie Hart and Brighton University identified a range of ways in which our resilience can be built. These fall into five core categories:

  1. Basics
  2. Belonging
  3. Learning
  4. Coping
  5. Core Self

Dear Parents/Carers,

Your child's school has been invited to take part in a trial of the Taketen App, which aims to help fight stress and improve mental health and wellbeing. The App can be downloaded from the respective App stores for iPhone and Android devices.

Please see the attached activation code for family members:   Q16NV-93RKT-BY93G to use once you have downloaded the app.

We hope to send out a weekly email to encourage participants to use the App.  This version of the App is a trial version so it may be slightly erratic. In anticipation of any problems we are really grateful for your patience.  If any issues arise or if anyone requires assistance, please email the company on info@letstaketen.com.  No personal data will be requested from any participant and the analytics from App usage will be fully anonymised.

Many thanks for taking part in this trial. Your feedback and suggestions will be greatly appreciated, and we will use them to make final changes to the App. We hope to formally launch the App at the beginning of the new school year in September.

Best Wishes

A representative of Christ Church, Norris Green, has been in touch with school to inform us that they have set up a new Food Pantry. Its aim is to assist families who struggle financially and may benefit from assistance in obtaining food.

It’s a way of helping individuals and families get incredible value for money, by becoming members of their ‘food club’.  Members pay £3.50 per week for any week they want to take part, and will receive food with a value of around £15-£20.  It’s open to all people living in the Norris Green and Sparrow Hall areas (as well as the Daneville estate).  Families and individuals can sign up at

https://www.yourlocalpantry.co.uk

and look for Christ Church, Norris Green pantry or can call on the pantry phone on 07874 772 872 to receive help and advice.

The Food Pantry have forwarded documents to school to help partner agencies to support those wishing to sign up.  So if you need assistance in joining the scheme, school staff may be able to help when school re-opens after half-term.

Christ Church is also still running a Foodbank and can issue e-vouchers, so get in touch if you feel this would help you or your family.
